The Blood of Olympus, Heroes of Olympus

Author : Rick Riordan

Review:
I read this book biased and ready to criticize, as I quite honestly did not like books 2 and 4 of the Olympus series.. Surprisingly, this book was enjoyable, comparable to the Percy Jackson books. Fast paced, and more witty dialogues.. Though I thought the end was a bit abrupt and there were quite a few knots which were left untied. I do not think any recommendation is necessary. Any Rick Riordan fan who has read the first 4 of the Olympus series and the Percy Jackson Pentalogy will not leave this book at any cost. And for someone who has not read the above, they will not be able to understand head or tail of this book anyways .. And now waiting for the series on Norse mythology- Thor and Loki my favourites...

Asura, The tale of the Vanquished

Author : Anand Neelakantan
Review:
Finally finished the book Asura- The tale of the vanquished. In short, the review - A maginificent book, but heavy weight. This is out and out Dravidian literature, so we can feel the author being more in his comfort zone playing with his imagination. The way he describes Lanka, the beautiful landscapes and scenaries of the island, the Ocean and southern India, the people, the administration and the judiciary systems , he really transports u into that magical world..Sometimes I did feel he might have borrowed heavily from Ponniyin Selvan, It felt like I am reading kalki sometimes. Where the plot has a setback is that it is written in the first person narrative..So too many mind ramblings... And secondly unlike Mahabharata where both the sides have gray shades, and justice can tilt eitherwise, it is tough to justify the carrying away of Sita, whatever the mind ramblings are !! The plot falters there badly. Every aide and general of Ravana are described in great detail. You will get to know about them, you will start respecting them. The vanquished who fought for the glory of the Asuras and their king.So if you are looking for a serious read and ready to be transported to the magical kingdom of Lanka ,it's proud Emperor and his admirable generals, this book is for you !!!

Ajaya- The roll of the Dice

Author : Anand Neelakantan

Review:
Finished the book "Ajaya-the Roll of the Dice" . Excellent narration and very fast paced book. Entirely different take on the epic where the antagonists are the protagonists and vice versa. Highly recommended, but beware- do not read this book unless you have a fair idea of Mahabharat itself. Else you will get it all wrong . This book was very refreshing read, especially after reading books which ponder into unnecessary complications of human mind - like Yajnaseni, Palace of illusions or books which just seem to narrate the epic bluntly like Arjuna-the warrior prince. This one stands a class apart- Thumbs up !!

The House of Hades, Heroes of Olympus

Author : Rick Riordan

Review:
Finished The House of Hades from Rick Riordan. Review :- Percy Jackson books have lost their charm...I really wish he had not started this olympus series at all. The first 5 were so good...The olympus series is a drag . The House of Hades continues where The Mark of Athena left off. Percy and Annabeth are in Tartarus . There they have to battle many monsters till they reach the doors of Death. The other demi Gods have to fight the monsters on the mortal world to reach the doors from the other end. Percy and Annabeth have to get back to the mortal world through the doors of death and at the same time, not let any other monsters out. The storyline goes on without any direction with the demi Gods fighting eccentric monsters and moving on. Very predictable indeed, finally, they manage to do so. The plot is too dragging.
Not one of the best from Riordan.
