The importance of being Roxie by Cori Cooper

The Importance of Being RoxieThe Importance of Being Roxie by Cori Cooper
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a poignant story about a high school kid who suddenly has a realization that she has thrown away most of her high school years and now wants to make a name of our own.
In this angst, she takes up a lot more on her plate than she could afford and lands into trouble.
Roxie is a very relatable character; anyone who is parenting a teen can relate to the angst one way or the another. The pressure to perform, the ups and downs of high school life hits her and how she tries to navigate it forms the crux of the story. I loved Roxie and would definitely look for more from this author.

The Amaranth Charter

The Amaranth Charter: A NoveletteThe Amaranth Charter: A Novelette by Nathaniel hc Kim
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was a different kind of a read, I have watched movies like this before, and am familiar of such romances from mythology. Reincarnation tales and love spanning multiple lives is a very endearing concept in India.
The story revolves around the Fishing Charter Boat captain Joshua and a mysterious young woman Elena who books a charter with him for three days and three nights. Though initially awkward, after few conversations, Joshua begins to realize that there is a deeper connection. Elena finally reveals a mystery to Joshua which makes him believe in reincarnation and fate. A destined romance, they begin to feel like they have known each other for long. I really enjoyed this book.

What we Give Away : By Paulette Stout

What We Give Away: A Delicious Standalone Novel (Bold Journeys)What We Give Away: A Delicious Standalone Novel by Paulette Stout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book took me by surprise. I loved it ! A romance with a formidable central theme, body shaming. We all can relate to this ,one way or another. Leslie is a fearless journalist and she has lived most of her life following a strict diet regime. The love of her life happens to be her ex, Risto, an upcoming star chef and owner of a Puerto Rican restaurant. He loves to live life to the fullest, and does not bother to watch his weight. When fate throws them together again, Leslie has to decide whether to tread the path of self-discovery and true love or rise to fame doing her job well.
I simply loved this book. Hope there are more such sensible love stories !

The Melody of Evil by N.L.Holmes

The Melody of Evil (Hani's Daughter Mysteries Book 4)The Melody of Evil by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This historic mystery is fourth in the series . As I did not read the previous three , I struggled a bit for the context but overall enjoyed the book . Neferet hires a bunch of musicians to play at her step daughter’s birthday party and one of them ends up murdered . The prime suspect is her step son in law .

Set in ancient Egypt the book offers vivid descriptions of the era and rich in details . It’s a cozy mystery which brings ancient Egypt to life . I really enjoyed the book.

This book is a very inspiring read . Many times we get so carried away by things around us and surround ourself with such gloom and despair, about things we do not have or things we have to deal with. This book full of short stories, poems and anecdotes, gives us a reassurance that we learn as we go on in our journey of life. It is a very thought provoking book with deep insights.
